Yeah I’m not crazy about Charbucks either, and I literally can’t choke down Tim’s, it’s that bad.
I definitely recommend trying a French press if you are interested. It is a lot different than normal drip coffee, but I like that about it. You can even use a paper filter under the steel mesh if you really want to keep any potential grinds out of the coffee. Bodum is sort of the go-to brand for these things, though cheaper ones can be found pretty easily.
Otherwise, I find that even normal coffee out of a drip machine can be pretty tasty if the beans are freshly ground.

God espresso FUCKS me.
100% try some cold brew. You can buy cold brew at basically any coffee shop nowadays.
And if you really feel like going extra look up lower acid coffee brew recipes for manual brewers like a french press or an aeropress. French press’ are cheap and real easy once you memorize the recipe. You just put hot water and coffee in it and set a timer. Bam done.

Also want to tell everyone that switching to using a French Press is a gamechanger when it comes to coffee enjoyment. It does require extra tools, but like OP wrote, they saved $42 in one week, so the cost to acquire these should offset in a week.
- I use the Bodum 34 ounce French Press](https://smile.amazon.com/Bodum-Brazil-French-Press-Coffee/dp/B00430C92U/). It’s high quality. Good for two ~16 ounce cups of coffee.
- Get an electric kettle. The Europeans use these all the time, and for whatever reason so many Americans just use the old kettle on the stovetop method. Electric kettles are so much faster to boil water. I use the Hamilton Beach 1 liter electric kettle. Works good and saves space.
- Get a GOOD grinder. I use the OXO Brew Conical Burr Coffee Grinder. This is next level shit. You can grind your own whole coffee beans for French Press or Drip. While I agree at $100 that can be a bit absurd, you have to realize you will use this grinder for the rest of your life. It’s fantastic. My secondary suggestion is KRUPS Electric Spice and Coffee Grinder with Stainless Steel Blade. At the time it cost me $30. It isn’t as good as the OXO, you have to pulse the blade and kind of guess on how fine you want to grind your beans.
- Get GOOD coffee. This is 100% subjective. The only way to know what you like is to try different beans & different roasts. If I were to suggest ONE bean it would be Costa Rica Arabica bean coffee. I have found myself time and again buying single origin Costa Rican coffee beans (medium roast).
- I want to suggest you also learn how to drink coffee black. Yes, some of you are right now blanching at the idea of drinking coffee black. Ugh. It’s disgusting! Believe it or not – once you start actually drinking GOOD coffee with a French Press, you will find out that black coffee shouldn’t taste like battery acid. Yes, it is somewhat bitter without the milk & 5 heaping tablespoons of sugar. But you will learn to enjoy black coffee if you start to try it with a french press and a good bean. The subtle nut, chocolate and flowery flavors of black coffee are more pronounced. Plus without milk or sugar, you get the pep of the caffeine without the crash of the sugar. It’s something meant to be sipped not guzzled.
Well there you have it. If I got one person to convert, then I did my job. Preach, brothers, preach!

Here is my coffee setup. My inverter is so large because I also use an induction cooktop. You could get a 1kw inverter. I got pure sine wave. Not sure if it is needed for coffee equipment, it is for the cooktop.

French press, coffee grinder, and kettle.
JBC, Rusty Dog, and Ledger are my favorites, with True and Just tied for third .
The grinder is $$, but you won’t regret it.
