I would say that, so far, IK Media’s AmpliTube has the best sounding models I have used personally. They have a "free" version here (Free as in beer, not free as in speech). You’ll also need an interface to plug into. You need a high impedance (hi-Z) input. Just plugging into the mic or line in won’t work well. Grab you something like this and the free AmpliTube and you should be jamming in no time… sans amp!
