Mine have the black pads. I had no idea the model had that much variation, but I have noticed all of the different headband and color options. This is the version I bought back in 2019.

Sennheiser HD 58X ($150) – Probably the best entry-level headphone out there. It has a bit more bass than the $200 6XX but isn’t quite as detailed in the mids and highs.
HIFIMAN HE4XX ($170) – I think this is an even better option as long as you’re ok with a bit less low-end bass. I really like how planar magnetic drivers sound and this is the cheapest way to get that sound.
Beyerdynamic DT 880 ($200) – While I have not personally heard these headphones, they enjoy a good reputation for the type of music you listen to, they are well know for being extremely comfortable, and they are known for their durability. Might be a perfect fit for you.
HiFiMan HE560v3 ($300) – These are going to be the best-sounding headphones you can get anywhere near this price class, as far as I’m concerned. Nothing else for less than $500 is going to be close. The soundstage is as good as it gets for planars, imaging is incredible, and the frequency response is superb across the board. They were originally $900 not too long ago, but were honestly overpriced at that level. They’ve been deeply discounted lately due to (partly solved) fit and QC issues. IF you are willing to take the chance that the first pair you receive may have to be returned due to one of the common defects AND if you are in the US and able to take advantage of the retailer’s free shipping and hassle-free (in my experience) return/exchange service, I can’t recommend these enough. The good news is that the retailer involved (Adorama) has a good reputation and a good track record of making good on these.
