Honestly the biggest decider is — do you live in a noisy environment or worry about annoying people nearby? If so, open or semi-open isn’t for you.
If you can live with open or semi-open, get the DT880 Premium / Edition. They are comfortable as hell — I wear glasses and I’ve worn these headphones for 6hr straight a handful of times. They also have the best sound of the trio. $180 on Amazon.
If you need to go closed, most people will prefer the 770-80 for its amazing bass but based on your preferences I would consider the 770-250 which is more neutral. Though the 880 has better sound, the 770 is no slouch and still sound fantastic. They have among the best sound stage of closed headphones, enough to best many open headphones.

Thanks for the response. The description for the DT800 sounds like something I would bite at.
Are those the Beyer Dynamic DT 880’s? I like the design of them. On amazon there is a 32 Ohm and a 250 Ohm option I am looking at. It seems like the 32’s would be better for scenario? I do not plan on using my stereo too much where I currently live.
Would I okay just plugging the headphones directly into my PC’s audio jack, or would I need other equipment to use them?

My HM5s are about to snap at the hinge so I’m looking for something to replace them. I’d like the replacement to sound similar, be a bit more comfortable (these clamp quite hard) and ideally be usable if I plug them straight into my laptop (I have an amp at my desktop but I work on my laptop too)
DT880s are £140 atm (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Beyerdynamic-DT-880-Premium-Headphone/dp/B000F2BLTM), HD598s are £160. I’m open to any other suggestions, these are just the ones I found so far. Please keep it cheaper than the 598s, and I’m far too lazy for anything that needs modding.
Thanks!

These are the ones I saw. I’m just curious if the step up in price makes sense.

I’m waiting for Amazon Prime day to order just to see if a good deal arises, but in the mean time have been reading a ton as I hope most do when spending $200+, and I’ve read a lot of people saying the 770’s are a little on the neutral side and not a lot of bass. I am really hoping for solid bass.

These headphones punch way above their price range. I paid $245 back in 2013. They’re currently $196 on Amazon. Mine are the DT 880. Specifically I got the 250 Ohm version, hence the Fiio L2 and Amp. The amp is the Fiio E17 amp. When I bought the Fiio L2, I actually bought two of them so I keep a spare. If I could find some of the 30pin ipod blank connectors, I’d make some LODs. But havn’t really looked for where I can get a supply of them.
The DT 880 is an open back headphone, so I only use it at home. Not bass heavy and great sound stage and separation in the music. I love them. They’ve been a great investment listening wise, and I have had and will continue to have many years of listjoy from them. The cable was a bit long so I braided it to shorten it. One day I may make a custom cable and replace it. Just too lazy at the moment.

I think the DT880 is excellent with Acoustic music, very natural.
Get them from Amazon so you can return it if you don’t like►https://Amazon.ca/dp/B000F2BLTM

Yes he does. What’s your point? beyerdynamic DT 880 Premium Edition 250 Ohm Over-Ear-Stereo Headphones. Semi-Open Design, Wired, high-end, for The Stereo System https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000F2BLTM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_3H76845P6866JQYFXTM2

Get yourself a good pair of high quality headphones with an amp and use a separate mic instead of a gaming headset. The sound quality is phenomenally better and the equipment will last 10 years instead of 3 to 4 years.

Nah you’re good 😀 I’m just trying to figure out what’s my issue but talking about the Dt880 is it more like a balance between comp and fun but more leading towards comp fps? There are 2 versions on amazon, the 250 ohm and the pro version.
·
super accurate headhpones: (need an amp but if you use an interface you can just plug right in)

I use these, this sub often raves about these. Keep in mind that’ll you’ll need a headphone amplifier as well.
Just as an aside: If you’re not willing to invest significant amounts of money, edmproduction may not be for you.
edit:/ the point of this post was not to discourage OP, but to talk about how edmproduction can become a very expensive hobby and that he should mentally prepare himself for that

Budget – I don’t really want to spend more that ~$600 on the whole package. Headphones, DAC, sound card, etc.
Source – This mobo
I am considering these
I have been reading a lot on this sub recently, but I am incredibly indecisive and just really want some input at this point. I download all my music in FLAC and these are just not cutting it.
Essentially my biggest fear is getting something with not enough mid and low end. I like to listen to a lot of heavy music, and I really need the low end.
I really appreciate any help I can get, trying to delve into a new topic I don’t know anything about is very intimidating.
I also do a LOT of gaming. So something that will work great for that would also be a plus.

Beyerdynamic makes the best sounding headphones I’ve ever used. You’ll want a headphone amp for these:

For a full setup including DAC and headphone amp that you can connect to your PC, I would suggest a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 880s and a Schiit Magni and Modi. The DT 880s come in several impedance ratings. I only have experience with the 600 ohm (the highest one) and a magni/modi stack can power it without issue, but 250 ohm may be better for general use (especially if you plan on using them with a phone or other portable device) and they should all sound the same. Overall, this setup will last you a long time and sounds excellent with every kind of music I can throw at it.

Any opinion on these DT-880?
·
Beyerdynamic DT880’s are great for gaming if you want to go all out, very detailed with extremely accurate imaging, certainly better than any gaming oriented rubbish. Then you could get something like this which clips onto the headphone cable. If the DT880’s are out of your league, I heartily recommend the AD700 which have a hugely expansive soundstage which really immerses you in the game. Both of these headphones have the added benefit of being incredible for music too.
