Depends how greedy they are and if they get along. Coincidentally, I also have three cats but I only use the feeder for the glutton. The other two I feed at the same time the feeder goes off (minus the 2am feeding) and they just eat what they feel like then I cover their food up.

This is the feeder I have, it comes with a chute that can divide the portions into two bowls, which are provided. So you could get two if you wanted?

I have two of this one. I’m about to buy two more when they come out with the “Smart” one with WiFi. (I have 6 cats) The seller said in the next couple months the Smart one will be out.

When going on vacation last time, I put a camera on the bowls so I could monitor if it was giving food properly, but it would also be nice to be able to activate it from far away in case I felt they needed more food for any reason.

I like this one for a few reasons. One being it can go from two to one dish if you’d like. Also, the buttons are on the top. So if anything, just make sure to buy one that the buttons are on the top, rather than in front. Front, you’d have to crouch down low to see the screen to change settings. In the top, well you don’t need to bend so far to see the screen. I had a front button one which I returned.

Once you can figure out how much food and how many times you want to feed daily, the button placement isn’t too bad, I suppose. But while honing in on the best settings over a week or so of trial and error with feed times and amounts, it can suck crouching down so much so often. Of course, it all depends on you. I’ve had some bad leg pain recently and I often have back pain, so the top buttons are better for me.

Good luck on whatever you decide to do!

In addition to having a set feeding schedule, I always recommend automatic feeders to people with very food-driven cats. This is the one I have. My previous kitty was intensely food-driven (to the point of eating things like tortilla chips and flour), and using the automatic feeder made a huge difference. First, we humans are fallible and do things like forget, fall asleep (especially problematic for people like us with chronic illnesses), and go out for the evening. All of these can disrupt the routine you’re trying to set, but a machine will feed them at the same time, all the time, down to just about the minute (mine is battery powered, so the clock ends up running fast over time, but it changes slowly enough that I don’t think it makes a difference). Second, I found that my cat focused on the FEEDER rather than me when she wanted to eat. This started within a few days of getting it. She’d stare and bat at it (which is why I got the one I did: it seemed like the sturdiest, and I knew she’d try to break into it) instead of harassing me.

Something else you might want to try are “hunting games.” It might be less that your cat is hungry and more that they’re craving the hunt. When you play with them during the day and they get a good “kill,” give them a treat or two. This satisfies their hunting instincts better than just playing. This is ideal when playing with a wand toy. It’s possible if you do this enough, they’ll stop begging at night. Another way to satisfy this need while you’re asleep is with an over-the-door toy. This is the one I have, and it squeaks, so you’d need to be able to put it away from where you’re sleeping since you’re a light sleeper. Even with one that doesn’t squeak, my cat makes a lot of noise jumping at the door.

I have been using this one since September with no problems. You are able to change portion sizes within 1/2 an ounce and to exact times of the day.
