https://www.amazon.ca/Audio-Technica-ATH-MSR7BK-High-Resolution-Audio-Headphones/dp/B00PEU9CFA Maybe cheaper elsewhere only checked amazon but this would be the next step up build wise (50x are still plastic and frankly inferior to 40x, 79x cost more than the MSR and sound worse but do have same nice metal build).

I have some Audiotechnica MSR7’s that need new earcups (the faux leather has cracked on these). They’re 4 years old but I haven’t used them for the past two. Still have the two 1m 3.5mm cables that were included. Located in Peterborough, open to shipping or meet half way. Asking $160.

What kind of gaming do you do? Do you want a more immersive, rich and bassy sound? Or do you want more neutral sound with emphasis on hearing footsteps, etc, for FPS type games?

Also, do you have a preference on open vs closed back? I noticed both of the ones you listed are open.

I have a pair of closed-back Audio Technica MSR7s that I use for competitive FPS games that are fantastic, and are on sale for $180. They are compatible with the V-Moda BoomPro mic as well. They don’t have a ton of bass (which is what you want for more competitive type FPS), but are still a pleasure to listen to music on as well.

Both of the cans you listed are great as well. Keep in mind, as previous mentioned, sound is subjective. While you’ll find a ton of people that love the DT 990s for example, you’ll find plenty who hate them and think they sound flat and tinny.

Also, you’ll need a mic to go with the headphones. The two general choices are V-Moda BoomPro and ModMic. The V-Moda is nice because it condenses everything to only 1 wire, but not all headphones are compatible (such as the DT 990s). The ModMic is great as well, but adds an extra wire and is a bit more expensive.

If you like crisp clean sound, I recommend the MSR7, it’s one of the most clean sounding closed headphones i’ve ever heard.

Those ones?

So the problem is the 3-8khz range, where the momentum aren’t as high-outputty as I’m used to, and therefore stuff feels weird?

Is this intentional by Sennheiser or did they “fuck up” in a way?

Will I ever start to like it? Because I really do like the headphones and Sennheiser in particular, would not feel right to change it after I hesitated with it for so long.

There’s two links on Amazon, one says “(Japan Import)” at the end of the description and the other does not

I got a crazy good deal importing them, and I guess I sacrificed the warranty. If you get them from the actual Amazon (not a third party), I’m positive you’ll get the warranty as they are an authorized AT dealer. I really love these, nice a neutral/bright sound. Bass is neutral but not lacking imo. Well built and comfy with stock pads. My gf has the K545 which are also solid, I prefer the msr7 by a small margin

The Audio-Technica MSR7 are an easy recommendation for precise imaging.

Unfortunately the price has gone up on them quite a bit over that past 6 months or so. I’m normally more comfortable recommending them at $150 or less. But, if you’re comfortable with return and refurbished units, there are several good candidates available through the Amazon Warehouse and Amazon Renewed at around that price.

If you think a semi-open would also work for you, the WS1100is is also a good option.

If price isn’t an issue, you can move up the ladder and consider things like the Fostex T60rp, BLON B20, or Focal Elex.

Budget: Up to £175

Source: Desktop PC (may get an amp later but not now) and possibly my phone (OnePlus 3)

Requirements for Isolation: I’ll be using them at home mainly, but it can be noisy so I want pretty good isolation and have been looking at closed back headphones almost exclusively

Will you be using these Headphones in Public?: Occasionally

Preferred Type of Headphone: Over-ear

Preferred tonal balance: Wanting a fairly balanced sound, a little bit of a V signature

Past headphones: Nothing of any note, everything sounded ‘good enough’

Preferred Music: Mostly electronic with some pop mostly. I’d also be using these for gaming but don’t want the sound signatures or gimmicks associated with gaming headsets

What would you like to improve: Clearer, more detailed sound and generally a more balanced signature

Location: GB

I’ve already done some of my own research and have found several pairs that seem to offer what I am looking for: Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7BK, Sennheiser HD 598CS (cursing myself for missing these when the were £90) and the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 (the iOS variant as they’re within budget, don’t know how well they’ll play with my Android phone however). Having trouble deciding between these, though I am open to any other suggestions of course. I did consider the Audio Technica M50X’s as I’ve heard many good things about them but wanted a (and I know this is subjective) good looking pair of headphones.

Thanks! 🙂

ATH MSR-7 187$ they aren’t really bassy but more balanced the the bass is there , astonishing great audio quality , they look great but u dont care about that , build quality is good , they are easy to drive meaning it will play from your phone no problem , comes with 3 cables , comfort is great and has a detachable cable with no proprietary entry so i recommend getting the v-moda boompro 30$ (excellent microphone with a good price) get it on amazon so you have dat 2 week return period if you don’t dig them ( but i doubt it )

Have a look at the ATH MSR7

The headphone measures very neutral with decent isolation for commuting. All around a great pick for portable enjoyment of well made and recorded music. The treble of the MSR7 can be analytical and will reveal flawed recordings very easily.

If you like the design and want to know more about this headphone, take a moment and watch Zeos’ Review.

If you want a little more of a “fashion” headphone in terms of looks and sound, check out the Sony MDR-100AAP

Sennheiser vs. Audio-Technica – Which do you prefer?

I just bought the Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7BK SonicPro Over-Ear Headphones and if I could have made a better pick. It was $212 and now I see Sennheiser HD 598 Special Edition Over-Ear Headphones on sale for $95. I am wondering which brand is usually better in terms of comfort, sound, and value. I was hoping for more bass with the SonicPro headset.

Budget: <$250
