Hey everyone! So I am going off to college next year, and I definitely want to have a good pair of headphones that I can use and travel with easily. I currently have a pair of Audio Technica A900X that I use at home for gaming, but as you probably know, these headphones are pretty large. I love Audio Technica, and I know their M-series products are popular and high quality, and I wouldn’t mind buying a pair if it’s worth it in my situation.

Would I be able to get by traveling with and using my current A900X’s in college?
OR
Would it be worth investing in an AT M-series pair?

If the later, which model is best to buy in the M-series? I like my purchases to be good investments, so I am more comfortable going toward the higher end models. Mainly looking at M40x vs M50x vs M70x.

I appreciate all input! Thank you and have a great day!!

> open but with good sound isolation

that won’t be happening 😉

See if you can find a good deal on the ATH A900X it can be a real pain in the ass to find ATH models at fair aprices in Europe though.

Not sure if they’d be comfortable wearing while you’re asleep, but at the top of your price range you might like the ATH A900x.

They’re closed-back so would provide decent noise isolation, and have a nice wide soundstage for a closed-back. They’re neutral-sounding and not too heavy on the bass. The cord isn’t detachable unfortunately.

To add.. if you want a balanced sound with no amp required then these are good.

Re: the A900x, any idea if this is legit? It seems unusually cheap..

I’d go for the DT770 Pro 32 over the ATH-M50x because of it’s wider soundstage. The ATH-A900x has an even wider soundstage – really good for a closed-back.

Budget – $200-250

Source – PC

Requirements for Isolation – Prefer isolation, gaming while kids and wife sleep. They’re not leaving the house so don’t need to be portable.
Preferred Type of Headphone – Full sized/Over ear. I find the leather/pleather ear pads make my ears sweat, prefer the velour/cloth type. But I have no experience with On-Ear, so maybe that’s a solution to the sweat factor?

Preferred tonal balance – No experience here.

Past headphones – Turtle Beach P21 (recently bought hyperx cloud’s but they don’t fit my head, seem to sit to high, only had them a few days maybe they need time to settle)

Preferred Music – Rap, Dance, Electronica, Rock

Location – Canada

I’ve been reading up and was interested in A900x or DT770 but Canadians seemed to get right fucked on price in comparison to the “recommended” by price ranges review on the side bar.

I also get confused when I see shit like this. One is missing the “A” but is nearly a $200 difference?

I went back on amazon to look try and find the A900’s, with no luck, then I went back to the A900x’s, and I found these two separate links, one says in the title is the 900x, but the product description and model number says A900x, and this one is just under $200, but I found this other one that has the title as the A900x, and are $400, is one a fake? or is it just a mislabeled thing?
