I cannot comment on the compulsion things except to all if you ever have any type of mania? Undiagnosed bipolar when given an SSRI/SNRI can cause rapid cycling. That would just mean you’re in the wrong med.
I don’t clench/grind during the day but I know I would sometimes at night. Turns out that’s common for Effexor across the board so it ramped it up big time for me. Get a night guard. It’ll save you teeth and reduce any been and jaw pain. Don’t even mess with the crap from Walgreens/CVS or in bulk from Amazon. Wish somebody had told me this initially because I blew SO MUCH money when I could have just gotten the kind a dentist sells but for a fraction of the cost, they’re way better, and last way longer.
Here’s an Amazon listing. You just do a mold, ship it to them, and they ship it back. Mine were perfect the first time but they’ll work with you to ensure its a good fit. It’s not a big operation but everyone I’ve talked to was very nice. Not like a receptionist it call center person but a dude working there to make them kinda deal.

The first few weeks are onboarding side effects and what you’ve described sounds like just that. On the up side, most will dissipate after that time frame.
Do be sure to take you Effexor at the same time every day. Like… Within the hour. Effexor has one of the shortest half-life’s of any of these meds so withdrawal can set in pretty quickly. You’ll hear people talk about brain zaps and nausea but most of that is easily mitigated . Check the wiki at /r/EffexorSuccess for some more info.

Is it all the time or just at night? I have it as well, and also take Dexedrine (primary salt in Adderall). It doesn’t get me to bad during the day… Or maybe it did initially but went away… But I have it bad at night. If you don’t like the dentist you can go on Amazon and get the same night guard (they have all day ones as well) for WAY less than the dentist. You do the mold, send it in, they send it back.
