We got this one off Amazon and hired a plumber to install for $225. It’s got a temperature sensor so it’ll auto-adjust humidity levels based on outdoor temperature. It’s only got a 1 year warranty but there’s so little to this device I don’t see the need for more. I recommend NOT using a saddle valve, rather a quarter-turn shut-off from you main water line. I replace the filter every year. Our house is about 2700 sq ft and we live in Minnesota.

I bought this guy last year and installed it. I am really happy with it. It doesn’t come with everything so I had to buy a couple more items, but the house stayed humid enough to relieve the dry throats and nostrils while not getting condensation on my windows. I just turned it back on the other week.

I just installed this one last weekend. I haven’t installed the outdoor temperature sensor yet, but it can run on manual and it has already made a difference. Went from about 20% to 35% and it is so much nicer. Does seem like it might run through a lot of water when on, but I will watch my bill and see.

It’s this one: https://www.amazon.ca/Aprilaire-Humidifier-500-Digital-2012-2013/dp/B0039PR5RE

But I didn’t pay that astronomical price. I bought it from amazon.com and had it shipped to a US post office at the border and picked it up from there. New price in CDN was right around $215. I got it because of the very high ratings and reviews. It’s one of the best out there.

For the dry winter months, install an automatic whole home humidifier. Total game changer in terms of breathing and feel of the air. With an automatic control, there is no adjusting the humidity level to balance with outside temps, keeping excess condensation under control.

I went with the Aprilaire 500 – https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0039PR5RE/

Definitely a heavily involved install for DIY, but doable with the right skills/tools.
