Hi there,

I just started reading this. Great sub!

Background: Early 40s Asian male living in South-East Asia (tropical, high humidity). Did not really take care of my skin until now, when wife started nagging. I am now trying to maintain or even reverse the effects of not taking care of my skin. I do not smoke, drink and eat healthily, but did not take care of my skin, just like most men.

I need help in identifying my skin type. Photos of my forehead and cheeks are here: https://imgur.com/a/C47yz

My questions are:

1. What are my skin types for my forehead and cheek?

2. I think that my skin type is dehydrated, especially for my forehead, thus, my basic AB routine is:

  • Cleanser: Hada Labo Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam (wife is using this, and it seems to be a great product)
  • Hydrating Toner: Using wife’s Avene Gentle Toner. Not sure if it is hydrating enough. Thus, based on recommendations here, have ordered Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner.
  • Serum: Watts Beauty Hyaluronic Acid
  • Moisturizer: Avene Hydrance Optimale Light Hydrating Cream (wife’s)
  • Sunscreen: Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Aqua Booster Mild SPF50+ PA+++

What can be added onto or modified from this routine? My primary concerns are my dehydrated-looking skin and wrinkles on my forehead, and some uneven texure on my cheeks.

3. What products can be used on my forehead for my skin and wrinkles? I am thinking of using a glycolic based acid and some peptides. Is this the right way to go?

4. I was considering tretinoin and other retinoids for my wrinkles but am concerned about some long-term health effects of Retin-A, especially increased mortality. Is this concern valid?

Thanks all!
