These should be fine: https://www.amazon.com/Soundcore-Cancelling-Headphones-Wireless-Bluetooth/dp/B07NM3RSRQ/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=Anker+Soundcore+Life+Q20+Hybrid+Active+Noise+Cancelling+Headphones&qid=1623995356&s=electronics&sr=1-3

If you need cheaper then any over the ear headphones would be an upgrade from your earbuds. Regular over the ear headphones feel like they block out a lot more than earbuds to me even if they aren’t noise canceling.

If you don’t want to spend $300+ like everyone is suggesting, I really like my Anker Soundcore q20s. Bose and Sony have pretty extensive patents on a lot of ANC technology, so they’re not quite as good, but they’re definitely 2/3rds as good for 1/6th of the price.

Anker Soundcore life Q20 wireless ANC headphones

I’ve owned Bose products and these are quite good. Has decent active noise cancelling and the battery is very good. Plus they don’t break the bank either.

Edit to add:. I’ve owned my pair for about 7 months and I use them for about 2-3 hours per day

Bought some Anker ANC headphones recently and they’ve been doing me well. Delay isn’t too bad on PC.

get earmuffs or earplugs, can’t get much cheaper than that.

For good noise cancelling I’d pick up old Sony XM3’s on promo, they still hold up today and I’ve seen them for as low as 100$ nowadays, a great bargain, even cheaper if used (the over-ear variant, I wouldn’t ever buy used earbuds).

You will not get good noise cancelling below 50$, period, cheapest I’ve found are these, going any cheaper will just be worse than getting passive sound isolating headphones that block out noise just by being on your ear.

You could also try to find earbud tips that are designed to block out noise, but in my experience they’re very uncomfortable for long periods of time.

I struggled with that too, just not wanting to be misinformed and constantly questioning how and why people are spouting crazy bs. I know you referenced a coworker being like this; I got airpods that offer noise cancellation and they are a blessing in my office filled with anti-vax trumpers. if you don’t want to pay for the airpods, here is a comfy over-ear brand that I had before that worked really well.

Also, the news and media coverage are also a central source for this type of stress for me. I have deleted all my social media(cept reddit) and basically don’t even bother with the news anymore. It’s all emotionally charged rhetoric to get ANY response, good or bad, from the consumer. It’s a lot quieter in my head now that I’m not consuming so many differing opinions from anyone I know or some giant media conglomerate, and I feel less of an urge to panic over crazy rantings from the office idiots lol. I’ve also been re-curating my reddit feed and unfollowed popular subreddits like whitepeopletwitter, facepalm, insanepeoplefacebook, etc, as I found that when I consumed more media like that I had less patience for stupidity in real life. I hope you can find some peace in this wild world

These are my favorite headphones on the cheap for music and noise-canceling: Soundcore Anker headphones. I wear glasses and they don’t bother me much, although I do wear contacts more frequently and don’t really know the glasses threshold with these (except tonight because of the topic).

However, I think you are talking about regular headphones and not a pair for music. ^_^ These do work without music. I noticed a big difference with a window fan on nearby when turning off/on the noise-canceling button. With other sounds…. I haven’t really tested it; I only use the headphones for music, which is wonderful for blocking out outside sounds for music enjoyment. Music is looove. <3

I’ve been using these for the last year and a half. Good sound quality, the battery lasts a long time, and they are relatively cheap. They are good entry level NC headphones in my experience. I can’t really justify $300 for those Bose ones.

I have been using Windows 10, always updating to whatever it wants, on a Surface Book 2, an older Samsung Laptop (NP-350), and a desktop with Asus B450M-A II motherboard and a Mpow USB Bluetooth Dongle.
Weirdly, I got the bluescreens on the Surface Book. I don’t remember the code but at the time I looked it up and it was related to Bluetooth drivers. A few weeks ago, I installed Windows 11, no bluescreens since then.
The play button breaks the screen calibration with these headphones on the desktop mentioned above: Soundcore by Anker Life Q20

On my Desktop, the headphones can’t even hold the custom name I assign to them by going to Devices and Printers – RClick – Properties – Bluetooth tab. This works on Surface Book.

I owned 9 headsets over the years, don’t remember the brands but nothing fancy, with some of them, if I don’t use anything with audio for a while, the next time I play something, the audio used to make weird stuttering sounds until I disconnect and reconnect.
Maybe Apple has issues too, I don’t know because I have never used anything Apple since iPod, but I am constantly losing face with my girlfriend who used iPhone and MacBooks with the same cheap third-party headphones without issue.

I got these through Amazon. They are the first NC headphones I’ve ever had, so I can’t attest to how good they are compared to others. But the price is right, way way cheaper than many out there. The battery life is ridiculous, like forty hours on one charge. More than enough, I only charge them like once a week.

They work well for me, but caveat emptor.

Hi. I got the Anker Soundcore Life Q20. It is good but not amazing.

Something to keep in mind: If using on PC, Bluetooth gives you the normal good sound quality. If you plug it in via 3.5 Jack, the sound quality is ridiculously crappy. I looked everywhere and apparently it’s just like that, I couldn’t find a fix.

1 point

·

25th Feb 2021

I’m pretty happy with these. The noise cancelling on them is the best I’ve come across in that price range. The only drawback is that if you have NC switched on and you’re moving around a lot it might give the odd crackle. I normally wouldn’t use NC if I was on the move anyway so it’s not an issue for me.

Maybe the Sennheiser HD200 or HD201.
Kind of limited with your budget tbh.
Unless you want to go the the wireless route that can be used wired as well, something like this.

Anker Soundcore Q20. I got them to replace a pair of stolen Bose noise cancelling headphones that I loved but couldn’t afford to replace, and they’ve been great – 90% of the performance, at 20% of the cost.

If you can’t or don’t want to spend a ton, I got these off Amazon and they were great: https://www.amazon.com/Soundcore-Cancelling-Headphones-Wireless-Bluetooth/dp/B07NM3RSRQ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2PJYH2K7OXEBQ&dchild=1&keywords=anker+noise+cancelling+headphones&qid=1594129534&sprefix=anker+noise+can%2Caps%2C486&sr=8-3

The noise-canceling function is excellent. Probably not as good as the super-expensive Sony or Bose headphones, but they blocked out all background noise. I could still hear a fire alarm the one or two times it happened, but I think that’s a good thing…?

this is the pair I have, its 60$ so not inexpensive but it is amazing. Even when it is off, just putting on the headphones decreases sound signficantly. Its bluetooth as well and has a good range so you can wander the house and still listen to your music. Also, personally sometimes if the world is too much I will wear my headphones and earplugs just to get rid of the extra imput

This is £100 cheaper than the other person’s build but doesn’t compromise quality. I also included some cheap headphones that are OK value, although if you want some noise-cancelling, you could go for the Anker Soundcore Q20 instead

The PSU is a little overkill but chose specifically because it’s quiet, 550w is just right for a 6600xt and a i5-12400f. The case comes with 2 fans that don’t make too much noise. The cooler is relatively quiet for its size and suffices for a lower power CPU like the i5-12400f.

The crucial p5 plus is awesome, very fast gen4 ssd for a very reasonable price (dunno why it’s cheaper than the regular p5 non-plus honestly).

To be honest, no.

Let’s extend the “night and day” metaphor. My buddy uses a pair of cheap Chinese Bluetooth headphones similar to this. Having listened to a piece of orchestral music on them that I’m familiar with, I personally think these are little better than landfill electronics. They would be best suited to spoken word podcasts only. There’s stuff you simply can’t hear, the bass is muddy and drowns out the mids, and the comfort is crap. So I would compare that to “night.”

Whereas the MDR-1000X, or the MDR-7506 I use for monitoring audio at work, are definitely “day” headphones. There is no part of the signal I can’t hear. Every instrument is clear and represented. Maybe the 1000X is a somewhat cloudy day, but still daylight. The bass is more “consumer” bass, but it doesn’t render stuff inaudible. The 7506 lacks that bass. So it’s more like a sunny day but with “blue blocker” polarized sunglasses. Really crisp, a little fatiguing after a while. My Z1R has oodles of luscious bass, but also lots of detail in the mids and highs. So that’s a sunny day but wearing some sweet ass Ray-Bans that actually allow me to see further into the distance because they attenuate the brightness of the sun a bit.

But they’re all “day.” The same goes for my Aeon Closed X. The differences in music are like the differences between sunglasses. The Z1R is the most comfortable, luxurious pair of sunglasses I wear during the “day.” Cheap headphones are like stumbling around at “night.” Do I prefer the Z1R to the 1000X? Absolutely. They’re way more comfortable for one, and they also render things more deeply, with more fun and emotion, because of dat bass. But when the 1000X was my daily driver, it wasn’t like I was “not hearing the music” or something. They were and are pretty good.

I think people exaggerate the differences between headphones to justify their purchases. Butt here’s a reason people also use the phrase “diminishing returns.” The differences between “good sounding” devices are smaller than the differences between “bad sounding” and good sounding devices.

Wireless- Anker Life Q20

Cableados – ATH-M20X

Hey. I’m genuinely curious. Can someone explain to me why I would want these over, say, a pair of “non-gamer” bluetooth headphones for much cheaper?

https://www.amazon.ca/Soundcore-Bluetooth-Headphones-Canceling-Playtime/dp/B07NM3RSRQ

Those are wireless, with up to 60 hours of battery life, or 40 with their active noise cancelling.

It has a mic built into the headset.

The only I think I can see that the Cloud Alpha S has over these is the “virtual” 7.1 surround. Is there something I’m missing here? Is the virtual sound that much of an improvement that it’s worth paying nearly twice as much (or 3 times as much when not sale)?

I hope someone gets back to me because I really want a nice headset, but i’d prefer something wireless and don’t want to get sucked into the whole overpriced “gamer” marketing nonsense if that’s all it is.

I fly a lot and used these Anker Soundcore headphones for a long time. Slightly over your budget at $57-60, but I think they are a great option at that price point. Excellent batter life, easy controls, etc. I have used them on commuter rail and subways as well, and they work well.

If you want to keep your hearing from being damaged, I’d highly recommend an over the ear headphone (edit — I don’t know if it is scientifically proven that one or the other is better, but I anecdotally find myself listening at lower levels with over the ear headphones. The data seems clear that listening at higher levels increases risk of hearing damage) I recently was gifted a much more expensive pair of Bose headphones and while the Anker’s are not as good, I would never have personally paid the extra for the Bose. I still prefer the Anker’s when I am on calls working remotely.

Edit 2: Here is a Wirecutter article about headphones, and one of the recommended earbud pairs is 50% off right now, $28 total.

Edit 3: so many edits. The silver SoundCores are $10 off for me on Amazon with a clickable coupon.

By the way, a tip to help migitate a bit: get on Amazon and find some cheap wireless headphones with active noise cancelation. They help immensely against everything but bone shaking bass.

I for example use these but there’s plenty of others: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NM3RSRQ

This plus running your window AC in fan mode for white noise (if you have one) should help a lot.
