1/2″ to 1″ is a huge difference in size. 4 guard sizes to be exact, assuming a guard goes up in increments of 1/8″. I’m sure 1″ guards are out there but they’re probably not as common because at that point most barbers are using scissors or the difference would be minute when “freehanding” it.
And the default guards are plastic and very easily bent. Not what you want when you’re hoping for accuracy and uniformity.

I was in the exact same situation as you, and I chose to use the oster fast feed. It works great the only problem is the stock blades and guards are not that good. If you want to be able to improve and need an all around bulk remover/ blender for a moderate price this is perfect.
