Another answer that’s not quite what you’re asking for, but it works well for me… After shopping around for a while, I decided that the best option for me was to put together my own KVM setup by buying components separately. I wanted to have a monitor mounted near the top of my rack that I could use to display a dashboard when not otherwise in use, with a KVM switch and slide-out keyboard below. My rack sits directly next to my desk, so it’s very convenient to roll my chair over, slide out my keyboard, and quickly take care of whatever I need to…

Anyway, I ended up buying the following:

  • KVM switch: StarTech SV831DUSB (8-port USB KVM switch) – $56 shipped on eBay
  • 1U sliding keyboard drawer/tray – iStarUSA WA-KBR-1U – $40 shipped on eBay
  • Rack drawer-sized keyboard/mouse combo – Adesso AKB-425UB – $50 shipped from Amazon
  • Dell 22″ Monitor – $30 or 40 (?) on Craigslist
  • 4 x StarTech USB KVM dongles – StarTech SVECONUS6 – $50 shipped from Newegg
  • 4U VESA monitor mount for rack – StarTech RKLCDBK – $40 shipped from Amazon

Total = ~ $240

You may be able to get a conventional all-in-one unit on here/Craigslist/eBay for less than I paid, but I don’t know that there’s a homelab standard. There’s an incredible variety of KVM units floating around the used market – many are outdated or use weird proprietary standards. For me, it just seemed easier to piece together a basic setup that just works and call it a day.
