I double this suggestion, been using them for many years. They are also awesome for playing white noise to sleep, especially when traveling. When the speaker wires wear out, keep the fleece part, and just buy the felt speakers part on Amazon to save some money. It’s also nice that you can remove the speakers to wash the headband.

If headphones hurt your ears try this also you could always get some ear plugs from a hardware store (Ace, Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc…), or online, they’re dirt cheap.

I have the same high frequency whine, the method did work for me and it was a blissful three minutes of silence and then the ringing came back with such vengeance I couldn’t block it and thought I was going to lose my mind. these have really helped and are easy to sleep in. https://www.amazon.com/AcousticSheep-SleepPhones-Classic-Headphones-Medium/dp/B0046H8ZHS

Also These are very handy for sleeping at night if it bothers you when you put your ear down on a pillow.

Its not a bad machine. I’m not sure what would work well for your use-case though. Gaming laptops get hot and they get loud so they don’t light on fire lol.

What I would do is buy your GF a pair of these and then get whatever gaming laptop you want: https://www.amazon.com/AcousticSheep-SleepPhones-Classic-Headphones-Medium/dp/B0046H8ZHS/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1486475231&sr=8-12&keywords=sleep+headphones

Of course you still have the heat issue — but nothing that a decent lap-desk can’t cure.

I use SleepPhones, and they’re awesome. It’s just a headband with soft speakers and you can remove the speakers and wash the headband. I use ’em every night. There’s a wireless version, too, but it costs quite a bit more.

Damn that sucks, well at least you have a situation that sorta works… sometimes

I had some really bad noise issues in my apartment so I tried sleeping with earbuds in a few times. It worked alright, I found they key was to put the wire inside my shit, so I didn’t strangle myself. Plus the earbuds let me sleep on my side whereas the my headset was not comfortable at all. Though the only reason that really worked is cause I had an old ipod nano that I put some rain noise on and clipped onto myself.

I’ve seen these (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0046H8ZHS) mentioned around a few times, but 3.5 stars isn’t typically enough for me to want to risk it.

Just some thoughts. Good luck.

I ended up getting these without the headband (it was cheaper at the time) and use a cloth headband I have at the house. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0046H8ZHS/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0046H8ZHS&linkCode=as2&tag=di01a2-20&linkId=EJTA6RSRRCTCBGZH. My husband snores so loud that I put in earplugs then these headphones that are plugged into my phone and play ocean waves on top volume. They are really comfortable, and it’s the only way I can sleep in the same room, much less bed, as him. Also, no bits for your son to pull off! 😊

SleepPhones are not BIFL however they fit your request. I have had a pair for several year and they still are working fine.

The best temporary fix is masking noises. White noise programs or music, or a mix of both.

I use these on nights when it gets bad:

OP, you’ve put your Amazon affiliate ID &tag=dian0c-21 into the submission link. Just as you did with the head massager thingie.

Guys, if you want to buy this but not someone else getting a small amount of money for the referer, use this link without any additions:

There’s a thing for this!! My stepmom bought me this for Christmas. There’s still a cord, but you can tuck it where it won’t affect you.

The ones I have are like a headband with thin speakers tucked inside. I can sleep on my side, ear on the pillow and it doesn’t bother me.

I use these earphones: https://www.amazon.com/AcousticSheep-SleepPhones-Classic-Headphones-Medium/dp/B0046H8ZHS
with music or brown noise.
Works great for me.

Haven’t tried any full headphones that are comfortable when laying on my side. Sleepphones are really comfortable and sound ok, but they’re not really noise cancelling and not super great sound if that’s what you’re worried about. If you’re looking for earbuds, try out some cheap ones and look for replacement noise isolating earbuds.

Klipsch and Sennheiser have some less expensive, but still good quality

I’m no audiophile so I couldn’t give you as much information as /r/headphones as suggested, but that’s just my answer.

I have a pair of SleepPhones that wrap nicely around my Simplus mask. The SleepPhones can double as a decent eye mask if needed to block light. I listen to relaxing YouTube videos (mostly of the sort you’d find in /r/asmr) and it knocks me right out. It is nice to have a distraction so that you aren’t focused on your breathing.

Take a look at these, they’re made for sleeping. I doubt they’d fit me, so I use pillow speakers instead.

Speaking of headphones; does anyone have experience with this? It looks interesting.
